A stunning Victorian mahogany twin pedestal desk with unusual barrel top.
The barrel top opens with two carved mahogany knobs to reveal a comprehensive fitted writing desk top with two banks of three small drawers flanking a row of six pigeon holes. Below the pigeon holes there is another row four larger drawers. These internal drawers are made using a lighter coloured satin wood which contrasts with the dark mahogany and compliments the light tan leather tooled writing pad beautifully. The drawers are traditionally dovetailed and featured a small round brass drawer pull.
The tooled leather writing surface comprises three hinged lids, each inlaid with tooled light tan leather, the central pad is hinged at the front to be used as a writing slope and can be set at an angle with an adjustable bracket in the well below. Flanking the slope the two lids open out to reveal paper trays. Each hinged lid has in inset brass ring pull which sits flush with the surface of the desk. The entire writing top pulls out from the desk when in use allowing the legs to sit comfortably under the desk top and provides access to the lids mentioned above.
The desk splits into three parts, the barrel top and two pedestal bases which contain a bank of three drawers each. This allows for easy transport and access into your home. All drawers are traditionally dovetailed and have turned wooden knobs.
This is an antique item of furniture, with the odd historical knock and bump, however it is in fantastic condition for age. All drawer operate smoothly and run freely. The barrel top is also in very good working order.
