An antique style oak captains desk chair with padded leather back and arm rests.
The padded back rest has a gentle sweeping curvature, providing lots of comfort, and features a scroll to the top. Developing into the padded arms, and all upholstered in thick brown leather, which are supported on square turned rails and a finely turned spindle to the front of each arm. The leather is pinned with studs which add another decorative element and shows the quality of this piece.
The carved oak saddle seat is made from a single piece of oak, which helps to date the timber used is the construction of the chair, and is proportioned to provide good comfort with out the need for padding or cushioning.
The seat is supported on gently swept cabriole forelegs, terminating in a pad foot, and shaped, square back legs. The font and back legs are joined by a square cross stretcher, adding a great deal of strength to the chair, and the cross stretchers are joined with a pair of spindles.
This is an antique item of furniture and as such should be expected to show some age and character. That said this chair is in very good condition and the frame is rock solid, showing no movement in the joinery. Please study the pictures careful to ascertain condition. One of the spindles joining the cross stretchers is too short and show a hole in the cross stretcher (PICTURED).
