This Georgian antique style writing bureau features a comprehensively fitted writing interior with secret compartments. This piece of furniture does split into two pieces with the top cabinet simply lifting away from the bureau base below.
Featuring a shaped cornice and panelled doors which open to reveal a shelved interior the bureau has the typical drop flap supported on extending rails when in the open position. This reveals the fantastically well fitted writing interior with: central well, various pigeon holes, small drawers and a central cabinet. The cabinet is flanked by carved columns which pull out to reveal secret storage compartments with another small drawer hidden above one pigeon hole.
Below the bureau desk sit three small dovetailed drawers across the top with another three full size and graduated drawers below. The drawers are complimented with pierced brass lock plates and swan neck handles in keeping with the Georgian styling. The bureau stands on ogee bracket feet.
This is a later reproduction of the Regency/Georgian period style and likely dates from the mid-Twentieth Century. It is an exceptionally well put together piece of furniture and is aged sympathetically to that period.
This is a reproduction item of furniture and has been distressed in places to add age. As can be seen in the pictures supplied the bureau is generally in very good condition for its and shows no movement in the joinery and the drawers operate smoothly. There may be the odd scuff here and there as this is a previously used item but as stated above it is in very good condition.
