Edwardian Antique Mahogany Breakfront Combination Triple Wardrobe

£625.00

Description:
An Edwardian antique mahogany combination, or compactum, breakfront wardrobe. The cornice to the top is ebony inlaid with a Greek key pattern with cross banded satinwood below. The two doors are fitted with bevelled mirrors and open to reveal full hanging partitions fitted with various hooks and rails. The central cabinet doors are again intricately inlaid with satinwood crossbanding and the central door panels have oval satinwood stringing to compliment the flame mahogany grains. The doors open to reveal a single shelved storage area. Below the central cabinet there is a bank of two short over three long drawers.
The wardrobe can be dismantled by first lifting the cornice off the top. The two mirrored hanging partitions and the central cabinet and chest combination can then be lifted free from the base. There are wooden locator blocks which drop into the base and which the cornice sits on to 'lock' the wardrobe together when in use.

There is a makers badge inside the top left drawer marked 'Edwards, Churchfield Road, Acton'.

Condition:
This is an antique item of furniture and as such should be expected to show some age. Please study the pictures carefully to ascertain condition and feel free to ask any specific questions. More pictures available on request.
Generally speaking this wardrobe is in pretty good condition. The joinery is all stable and solid except for the top right hand drawer which has lost its top dovetail. This has allowed the drawer front to move away from the corner (as can be seen in the picture). The mirrors might benefit from re-silvering as the left hand one in particular is becoming corroded. However there is an argument that leaving it in its original condition would actually increase the value of the piece.
