An unusual continental drop flap bureau with a beautifully fitted writing interior. The box on the top lift away for transport and is fitted into position with two dowels. Below there is a shallow wide drawer with a curved front.
The drop flap opens to reveal the fitted interior comprised of a long top drawer over the wide central locker door. This is in turn flanked by six small drawers separated by finely turned columns. There is a recessed space below the fitted interior which would be perfect to store a laptop or tablet when the drop flap is in the closed position. It should be noted that the drop flap is counter weighted which makes it easier to close. The front of the drop flap shows a stunning split veneer grain panel.
Below the bureau portion of this piece there is another drawer with a shaped front, to compliment the top drawer. This is followed by a square front drawer with beading and finally a deeper flat front drawer to the base of the chest. These three drawers show a continuous grain across all three drawer drawer fronts which really marks the quality of this piece.
Flanked with intricately turned pillars which run the full height of the bureau and standing on traditional bun feet.
Please study the pictures carefully as there is some age and wear to this item (as should be expected of antique furniture). The top shows some dowel holes which would likely have supported a decorative carved panel however the desk arrived to us with this part missing. There are some pieces of veneer missing and various knocks and blemishes. Overall the frame is solid and shows no movement in the joinery however the top lid of the small box on top has twisted slightly (pictured).
