A Visit From the 'Antiques Road Trip'

A Visit From the 'Antiques Road Trip'

On Thursday 6 July we were very pleased to welcome the team from the hugely popular BBC production 'Celebrity Antiques Road Trip'.

Produced by Scottish Television on behalf of the BBC, Celebrity Antiques Road Trip is now in its seventh series, a testament to popularity of the show. The premise of the series is for two antique 'experts' to pair up with a celebrity guest and try to buy antiques from dealers and showrooms from around the UK. They will then take those items to an auction house and hope that they sell for a profit. Any profits made are of course handed over to a charity of the celebrities choosing.

For a small independent business like ours getting the exposure that a huge show can bring is absolutely fantastic. Not only do we have the benefit of the initial airing of the show but these programs are also very popular in the BBC iPlayer and episodes are repeated on a regular basis. So naturally when the call came in from Fraser at STV, enquiring whether I would be interested in taking part, I bit his hand off for the opportunity.

Once we had agreed that in principle the plan suited both parties I casually asked when they would like to book in for a visit, expecting a date weeks or even months into the future (assuming that there are long lead times in producing TV shows). 'We would come on Thursday morning' was the response I got...now then given that this conversation took place on Tuesday morning, and also take into account the fact the shop floor had been devastated by a particularly busy weekend (with many items having been taken from the shop floor) and let us not forget that as I had been prioritising our online activities (playing on the computer and Facebook) over looking after the displays on the shop floor; one can imagine the gargantuan task that lay ahead...'Yes that will be fine, Thursday morning it is then!' I confidently declared while casting my gaze over the 'showroom'.

And then I set to work. I was going to display every item, dusted and polished and with new price labels. The front yard also benefited not only from some extensive weeding and leaf collecting (we have some willow trees over looking the car park and so we are locked into a constant battle to keep nature at the front door) and the hanging baskets were refreshed. After working late into the night on both Tuesday and Wednesday I finally stepped back and decided to call it a day...tbc...

Origin Antiques Featured on BBC's 'Celebrity Money for Nothing'

Origin Antiques Featured on BBC's 'Celebrity Money for Nothing'

Yesterday I was very excited to watch the newest episode of BBC 1's ever popular 'Celebrity Money for Nothing'...

In early summer we were contacted by the production company 'Friel Kean Productions' who produce the show. They offered a beautifully restored bow front chest of drawers for sale and I just had to have it!

A couple of weeks later and I found myself nervously awaiting the arrival of the chest...and camera crew. Of course they wanted to see the recently refinished chest being handed over to the new owner (me!) as until that point I hadn't even seen it 'in the flesh'.

Having had no previous experience in front of a camera I was understandably a bit jittery as I had no idea what to expect, or indeed what was expected of me. Amazingly I did one piece to camera, explaining why I liked the item and was prepared to buy it, and the camera man declared me to be a 'natural':D One take and then he was packed up. It was a 'wrap'...

You can watch the episode on BBC iPlayer here. Keep your eyes peeled for more TV appearances in 2018! We are going to have an extensive feature on the 'Antiques Road Trip' (as previously discussed in an earlier blog post) and of course I will let everyone know when to watch through our social media accounts and this blog so be sure to like, follow and give us your comments!
